Frequently Asked Questions

The five questions prospective authors ask us most often about submitting to P&K Publications — eligibility, timeline, rights, royalties, and what happens after you send your pitch. If yours isn’t here, write to kmartin@pandkpublications.com.

Who is eligible to submit a manuscript?

P&K Publications accepts pitches from authors with completed, previously unpublished manuscripts in our active genres: thriller and fiction, golf instruction, personal finance, and mandala coloring. Both debut and experienced authors are welcome. Authors must hold the rights to the work, and submissions must be in English. There is no agent requirement — you can submit directly through our Standard Query track on the /submit page.

How long does the editorial review take?

A Standard Query is reviewed by our editorial team within 6–8 weeks of submission. When we send an acknowledgment, you will see the date your pitch entered the queue. If 8 weeks have passed without a reply, write to kmartin@pandkpublications.com and we will look up your submission. Authors who need a faster turnaround can request an Expedited Review ($149) for a 10-business-day response with written editorial feedback.

Do I keep my rights after a query?

Yes. Our Standard Query has no exclusivity requirement — you retain all rights to your manuscript throughout the editorial review window and afterward. We read, evaluate, and respond; nothing transfers to P&K until both sides sign a publishing or licensing agreement. If your work is then acquired, the agreement specifies which rights transfer (for example, print and ebook rights for a publishing deal or term-limited excerpt rights for a licensing deal), and the terms are negotiated before any contract is signed.

What do royalties and licensing terms look like?

Royalty splits and licensing terms depend on the type of deal. For acquired manuscripts, royalty and advance terms are tailored to the scope of the publication and spelled out in the publishing agreement. For excerpt and serial licensing to other outlets, we offer per-outlet royalty shares negotiated in the Excerpt / Serial tier ($250 / month, non-exclusive, term-limited by default), and Full Rights deals are scoped to print, ebook, audio, and translation as needed. See the /pricing page for current tiers or email kmartin@pandkpublications.com for a custom scope.

What happens after I send my pitch?

After you submit, your pitch enters our editorial queue and you receive an on-screen confirmation. Two editors read each query letter, synopsis, and sample chapters independently. At the end of the 6–8 week review window, one of three things happens: (1) we request the full manuscript, with a short note on what we loved about the opening pages; (2) we offer a revise-and-resubmit, which is a real invitation to send a new draft after addressing our feedback; or (3) we send a polite decline. In every case you hear back from a person, not a form letter.

Still have questions?

If you’re ready to send us your manuscript, the Standard Query is free and reviewed within 6–8 weeks.
